Dr. Kathryn Addo is on a mission to rebuild communities as she bridges gaps and connects neighbors. She founded a business consulting firm, STC Consulting LLC, that provides nonprofit start-up, formation, and operations support. She enjoys teaching nonprofit seminars and is in demand as a public speaker sharing her passion for community empowerment through philanthropy. Dr. Addo is also a John Maxwell certified Speaker, Trainer, and Coach who serves on several nonprofit boards. A self-described ”people person” she loves sharing time with family and friends.

BLACK PHILANTHROPY: CARRYING ON A TRADITION OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

Black History Month was initially conceived by Carter G. Woodson, a Harvard-trained historian, who hoped to raise awareness of Black people’s contributions to civilizations.  The first celebration was held in February 1926 to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.  Negro History Week later became African American History Month when our nation celebrated its bicentennial.
