In an effort to help my father downsize, I was recently cleaning out some of the things he and my mother had gathered during their 50-plus years of marriage. In doing so, I came across an issue of LIFE Magazine from Nov. 5, 1945. With a 10-cent price tag on the taped-up cover, the magazine featured a large, black and white close-up image of an American sailor sipping a milkshake with the short headline: “THE FLEET’S IN.” (more…)

Looking at Childhood Hunger Through a Different Lens
My colleague, Christina, recently volunteered at a local elementary school where she helped stuff food into backpacks for children who are struggling with food insecurity (lack of access to nutritious food) and hunger. She told me she was chatting with a school employee who shared how grateful the kids were to get this food for weekends. She then told Christina that a 5-year old came to school shaking, he was so hungry. (more…)

Be the Why. We All have Value
A lot of us take time at the end of the year to reflect on what we’ve achieved over the past year. In that spirit, we wanted to share this inspirational essay from Cindy Boaz. She’s a nominee for our LifeChanger of the Year educator recognition program. She teaches adaptive physical education at the Keller Independent School District in Texas and is a Special Olympics coach.
