So many of us are headed this week to what we truly consider home, our hometowns, to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends.
So what better time to celebrate the heart of our hometowns than now. That’s what we’ve done with our latest Main Streets Across America recognition program.
Once again, we’ve canvassed the nation looking for those places that define community in America.
We’ve compiled the results, highlighting one main street – which might be called Main Street or Park Avenue or Broadway or even The Circle – in every state and Washington, D.C.
Some are big cities and others are small towns and there are suburbs, too. We’ve found state capitals and college towns, places of industry and tourist destinations. What they all have in common is that they are a focal point for their community.
They’re where people shop and work and live. In short, they’re places that symbolize the idea that Main Street or downtown is more than just an address.
They’re places where handshakes, smiles and personal greetings still mean something. This is where we come together to celebrate history and heroes, pass traditions from one generation to the next and build a strong and vibrant community with new perspectives and fresh ideas. It’s where life happens.
